Alif Alif Atoll

Alif Alif Atoll, located in the Maldives, consists of 33 islands. Although only eight of the islands are inhabited, the rest contain breathtaking ruins that are well worth the visit. The remains are those of a Buddhist period. Statues and buildings alike the dot island landscapes in the exotic area of Alif Alif Atoll.

As mentioned previously, multiple islands comprise Alif Alif Atoll. The most prominent island, Thoddoo, is the island chief. This famous area proudly proclaims that it produces the most amount of watermelon in the Maldives as well. The growing season surrounds Ramadan because this is the particular time of year when the price for watermelon is significantly higher than the price throughout the remainder of the year. Islanders arrive in Thoddoo from all over to sample the exquisite watermelon.

Buddhist ruins

During the 1950s, the majority of ruins found in and around Alif Alif Atoll were discovered. Surprisingly, the majority of ruins are perfectly preserved in the area. This has allowed adventurers and scientists to learn vast amount of information about the Buddhists that once occupied Alif Alif Atoll. Unfortunately, individuals have vandalized the area within the past century and damaged a small number of these precious ruins.

Alif Alif Atoll is an exotic location that retains an air of mystery to this day. Visitors can view the well-preserved Buddhist ruins while traveling from island to island. Each of the 33 islands contains a new story and past to discover.
